Cut it out 住手
Ed: Hey, Mary, can you cut that out?
Mary: Cut what out?
I’m not doing anything.
Ed: The tapping of your pen on your desk.
It’s driving me crazy.
Mary: Fine! By the way
would you mind not slurping your coffee
every time you have a cup!
Ed: I don’t slurp my coffee.
And plus, how can you hear it
when you’re shouting into your phone
all the time?
Mary: You ’ve got to be kidding me!
You’re complaining about me
talking on the phone
when you go out for a cigarette break
ten times a day to shoot the breeze?
Stop swearing
Everywhere in the world you can hear people
swearing or using foul language.
Even when learning a second language,
many people know how to swear
before they can speak the language properly.
Indeed, it is a disease.
Recently, in New Jersey,
the government decided to
do something about the problem.
It banned swearing.
You could face a US$500 fine,
including a three-month jail term for swearing.
It is a good law because people in New Jersey
have really stopped swearing so much.

On the internet
The Internet is playing a more
and more important role in our daily life.
On the Internet, we can read news both from
home and abroad and learn about
all kinds of other information as well.
We can also send messages
by e-mail, make phone calls,
take classes, read various kinds of books
and learn foreign languages by ourselves.
Besides, we can even do shopping,
have a chat with others
and make friends with them on the Internet.
In a word, the Internet has
made our life richer and more colorful.

Next to us lives Mr. Zhang,
who is a street-sweeper.
He is in his early sixties and looks quite stern,
but in fact, he is easy to get along with
and is always considerate of others.
Rain or shine,
he goes out to work in the early morning
when there is little traffic on the road.
Because uncaring people litter the streets
with so much garbage,
he cannot take a rest until noon.
To my surprise, he never complains about
his hard and dirty work. In a word,I don't
look down upon him just
because he is a street-sweeper;
instead, I respect my kind neighbor.
他年约60出头,看起来很严肃;
总之,我不会因他是个清道夫就看不起他;

Just a dream
One day I was at home listening to music
when suddenly I felt a pain in my neck.
As I tried to turn my head,
I heard my neck crack.
I got the fright of my life.
I was so scared that
I could feel my legs trembling.
"What's the matter with me?"
I thought to myself.
Just then, I felt myself slapped by someone.
I opened my eyes and saw
my teacher standing over me
with an angry look in his face.
I realized then that I had been dreaming.
I didn't mind getting caught dozing off in class.
I was happy what happened was just a dream.

I respect him
I respect him,who was
born into a humble family
but never thus feels self-conscious.
He does well in school but
remains modest and polite,
which is why he has so many friends.
Back home,he helps his mom
do the chores and look after
his two brothers and one sister.
All in all,he is my role model in every way.
